Your right to restorative justice and how to access it in Nottinghamshire

My local area theme

What’s on offer?

We will have a panel of speakers talk about what restorative justice is and rights regarding restorative justice. We will have speakers to talk about their experiences of the restorative justice process. This will be followed by a Q&A and then informal interaction over refreshments.

What’s it about?

This event will introduce you to restorative justice. In England and Wales, restorative justice processes bring those harmed by a crime, and those responsible for the harm, into communication, enabling everyone affected by a particular incident to play a part in repairing the harm and finding a positive way forward. The Code of Practice for Victims of Crime (2020) gives victims the right to:

  • receive information about restorative justice, and
  • be referred to a restorative justice service

The event will give you an opportunity to learn about how restorative justice is delivered in Nottingham/shire and has been experienced by those who have participated in restorative justice previously.

Real-life stories will be told at this event, and some attendees may find these accounts triggering. Trained staff from Victim CARE will be there, to offer support, should you need it.

Who’s leading the event?

Dr Kerry Clamp, Associate Professor in Criminology, University of Nottingham

Victoria Willis - Lead Practitioner – Restorative Justice Catch22 Nottinghamshire Victim CARE

Open to

Anyone who could experience or engage in crime. It will also be open to criminal justice practitioners who want to learn more about their responsibilities under the Code regarding restorative justice.

Of particular interest to

Victims and potential victims in particular given they now have a right to information about, and access to, restorative justice under the new Victims' Code.
