What makes you, you?

a fun activity designed for children to explore and express their own uniqueness through art.

What’s on offer?

What makes you special? What makes you unique? What makes you different? We are all made up of the same things, skin, bone, blood, organs, what is it that makes us different?

Can the answer be found in our genes, ‘the instruction manual for making a person’, or is that only part of the story?

Join us for a fun activity designed for children to explore and express their own uniqueness through art.

After a short talk about the link between genetics and our identity, Libby Esler (Arts educator and facilitator, Artlab) will guide the children in creating a self-portrait to represent how they see themselves.

This self-portrait will be used to create block-printed images on paper for the children to take home. It will also be printed onto a large cloth, which will form a collaborative artwork, to illustrate the uniqueness, diversity, and beauty we all bring to society.

The final artwork will be put on display at the University of Warwick and will also be available to view online.

Who’s leading the event?

Professor Felicity Boardman
