The event will consist of some short presentations and some small group activities, where we hope people can offer their perspectives on future opportunities and challenges for the club in helping young people to reach their potential. Informal refreshments and a buffet will be served afterwards. The event is being organised by Durham University, Wallsend Boy’s Club and the Michael Carrick Foundation and is a chance for key stakeholders to shape the work of the club as it prepares for the opening of a new community hub at its home at Kirkley Park.
A footballing connection at WBC can be traced back to 1906. Today, the club has over 600 registered players across male and female, junior and senior teams. Its strapline ‘More than football’ highlights a commitment to wider social goals beyond football coaching. This event will discuss what ‘More than Football’ means to different people involved with the club and the local area, and how the club can support local communities in the coming years.
