What’s on offer?

Let’s ExCHANGE! Exeter Care Homes Research Learning and Networking Event is an event celebrating innovative social science research into local care homes in and around Exeter. The in-person event will showcase the work of the ExCHANGE (The University of Exeter and Care Homes Knowledge) Collaboration research project and provide a fantastic opportunity to network with all those interested in social science care homes research.

What’s it about?

This event is about exchanging and sharing knowledge, research and creative ideas around the care home sector to explore how social science can be used to better the lives of those working, living in and visiting care homes. The focus of the event is on local care homes in and around Exeter and how to address ongoing local practice issues which relate to wider national and international debates around social care. We will be asking questions like: ‘How can we use research to increase the happiness of care home residents?’, ‘What makes a care home a “homely” home?’ and ‘How can we actively include care homes in our local community?’

We welcome anyone with an interest in social science care homes research to please join us on November 3rd 2022 for this exciting day of sharing and networking. We hope that it sparks some innovative ideas and exciting future collaborations. By connecting and collaborating with others interested in care homes, together we can work towards producing much-needed, critical and timely social science research to help us move closer towards our shared goal of improving the health and wellbeing of those working, living in and visiting care homes. Let’s make these connections a reality! Let’s EXCHANGE!

Who’s leading the event?

Chloë Place is a University of Exeter Postdoctoral Research Associate at the College of Medicine and Health, working as part of the Exeter Care Homes and Knowledge (ExCHANGE) Collaboration. This project falls within the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Applied Health Research Collaboration South West Peninsula (PenARC), and is supported by funding from the Alzheimer’s Society and Dunhill Medical Trust. Chloe's research focuses on the wellbeing and happiness of older people living in care homes.
