Improving schools for disadvantaged children

Child with painted hands

What’s on offer?

Public debate on the research findings of two UK Council funded projects. A keynote from Ziauddin Yousafzai (Malala’s father)

What’s it about?

The event will open with a brief keynote speech by Ziauddin Yousafzai, Malala Yousafzai. There will then be brief presentations of the new key findings and implications from our British Academy study of early child education in India and Pakistan (grant code ECE190026), and from our evaluation of the impact of Pupil Premium funding in England (arising from ESRC grant number ES/N012046/).

These results form the basis for our forthcoming Routledge book - Making schools better for disadvantaged students (2022). They are relevant to an area like the North East where educational disadvantage is higher than in many other areas of England, and to low-middle income countries, enhancing our understanding of the impact of school and revisiting the very purpose of schooling.
