Dalton Square 2032: Beyond SMART city

My local area theme

What’s on offer?

Would you like to see what the iconic Dalton Square in Lancaster would look like in 2032?

This two-day interactive exhibition showcases the results from a research project allowing you to experience the future city of Lancaster as a 'Smart' place, using technology such as the Internet of Things, wearables, and artificial intelligence (AI).

What’s it about?

The exhibition will present imaginary prototypes of Smart products or services for the future of Dalton Square in 2032, designed by MA Design Management and BA Architecture students from Lancaster University. Each prototype will be presented in rendered images, 3D printed models, and comics. You can see what they are and how they could work in Dalton Square.

Come along and reflect on how smart or connected technology could shape your everyday life, consider ‘when do you think it will be deployed in Dalton Square?’ and ‘would you be happy to have a smart bin in Dalton Square?’

You will also be invited to draw what Dalton Square will look like in 2032 by imagining ‘what if everything was digitally connected?’ and ‘what if everything collected data?

Who’s leading the event?

Nuri Kwon, PhD Candidate in Design at Lancaster University
