Beyond the Energy Price Guarantee: What Next?

What’s on offer?

5 minute welcome by Jagjit Chadha (NIESR), 30 minute presentation by Thiemo Fetzer (University of Warwick) on a policy paper discussing what comes next for the Energy Price Guarantee, with a 15 minute responses from Ben Moll (LSE) and Adrian Pabst (NIESR)

What’s it about?

With the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) - now ending in April 2023, how will households be supported with their rising energy bills?  What can the government do to help those most vulnerable and hardest hit, whilst also ensuring that it is as cost effective to the taxpayer as possible?  Could it also be used to incentivise a change in energy use, contribute towards the drive to net zero and spur economic growth?

Join us on at this event for a discussion on some of the options that could be considered as part of the planned review and proposals.  Led by Professor Thiemo Fetzer, with input from economists at NIESR (who recently proposed a variable energy price cap) and a panel discussion, we will explore how the current energy crisis may be an opportunity to build a stronger, healthier, fairer & more sustainable society that cuts carbon emissions and removes the widespread dependency on foreign energy supplies.
